SEATTLE – May 15, 2018 – Brooks Running Company celebrates the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games and all Special Olympics athletes with the launch of the limited-edition USA Games Ghost 10 shoe and collection of apparel and accessories. A statement of inclusion, the collection draws inspiration from the USA Games logo which is symbolic of the iconic torch, the water around Seattle as well as the joyful sweat and tears of the Special Olympics athletes, volunteers, families and fans. Brooks will donate $10 from each footwear sale and $5 from each apparel and accessory sale to the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. The USA Games Ghost 10 and apparel will be available for purchase on brooksrunning.com and at select retailers beginning May 15.
“As a partner for the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games, we sought to create a pair of shoes that celebrate the spirit of the USA Games and of all Special Olympics athletes,” said Associate Footwear Merchandiser Beth Rathburn. “The shoe is a statement of inclusion, and we can’t wait to see it on the feet of the athletes!”
The Ghost 10 features a smooth ride thanks to its combination of soft cushioning and enhanced fit. BioMoGo DNA midsole cushioning dynamically adapts to your stride while Segmented Crash Pad provides smoothest ride possible. Above foot, the newly engineered mesh upper delivers strategic stretch and structure. On this limited-edition shoe, Special Olympics USA Games colors—blue and teal for men and purple and teal for women--decorate the shoe featuring an ombre effect atop the Brooks logo. The USA Games logo adorns the heel, tongue and sock liner while the Special Olympics logo stands out on the bottom of the tongue. The words “Special” and “Olympics” appear on the lace aglets. Among other items, the apparel collection features shorts, jackets, a sublimated sock and short sleeve options, one of which features a unique Brooks graphic illustrating cheering hands raised in the air, a symbol of inclusion and support of Special Olympics athletes and runners everywhere.
“When we designed our apparel and accessories for this collection, we wanted to honor the hard work of athletes at the USA Games and of all Special Olympics athletes,” said Global Apparel Merchandising Manager Elena Park. “The colors and silhouettes create a strong collection that we hope will inspire and motivate the athletes and be a badge of honor for families and friends of athletes.”
In addition to the limited-edition gear, as a partner for the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games, Brooks will further support this event by providing hundreds of volunteers for the event, offering a free pair of performance running shoes to USA Games athletes, delivering an engaging brand experience to athletes, coaches, families and fans, and more. Brooks sponsored athletes Andy Bryant and Colleen Bryant will compete in the USA Games; Andy in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs and Coleen in the 1,500- and 5,000-meter runs.
