Olympic success has focused attention on New Balance's track and field line. The Vazee Sigma is a brand new, top end sprint that saw action at the Rio Olympic Games. The upper is a booty like construction which features a new version of the Boa closure system, with a textile chord replacing the metallic cable, for quickly securing the foot over the spike plate with the twist of a disc.
The shoe has no midsole, the upper attaching to the full length thermoplastic spike plate, its tooling shared with the SD 200. The plate has an 8 spike configuration with a lateral ridge beneath the metatarsals positioning the foot for optimal sprint power, with smaller ridges that fan out to keep the plate light but stiff enough to transfer to track speed. The combination of features, done very well, makes the Vazee Sigma a very serious shoe for the sprints of all distances.
