The Cloudace is a new addition to the On Running line, dropping in at the top of their range. It is a hybrid of sorts, straddling the luxurious and performance ends of the spectrum.
The upper is closed mesh with welded supports and while not softly luxurious, it has a comfortably appointed feel to it. The midsole consists of On's speed board, the snappy polymer plate which is shared by all of their performance shoes, and their unique Clouds, here with a beefier configuration to provide durabilty and a well cushioned feel, though far from a mushy or mattress-like ride. The outersole is a grippy, low profile, rubber sole, with the expected performance and durability, though the construction does come at the expense of a little extra weight. Runners who prefer a firm and responsive feel from a shoe will find the Cloudace has a familiar feeling, but is a durable and more protectively cushioned daily trainer and recovery shoe.
Testers: “The cushioning is firm, with a stable and responsive feel. Fits well, with good support from the upper.
