The Gel-1000 has been a mid-priced workhorse for ASICS for over 2 decades. The name comes from a numerical reset, though the "1000" designation has not been used before, previously the series jumped directly from the 140 to the 1050.
This franchise has long benefitted from cushioning and stabilizing technologies vetted by ASICS higher end shoes. The 1000 features an upper of stretch mesh with fused film overlays at heel and forefoot, convetional synthetic leather overlays at the toe and midfoot, but with elasticized at the top and bottom of the eyestay to allow the shoe to flex with the foot. The midsole continues its consistent ride with SpEVA, aided in cushioning by a lateral crashpad and a SpEVA Strobel board in the heel, as well as a measure of stability from its well positioned DuoMax second density of foam on the medial side. The outersole has a newly shaped articulated heel with AHAR rubber lending its durability, while the forefoot has a newly designed traction pattern in the blown rubber for better grip and a touch of cushioning. Overall the improvements have stepped the Gel-1000 up a noticeable notch in comfort and performance.
