Nike is often a pioneer to new materials, thanks to its position as the biggest player in the running shoe game. The Luna Racer is a new shoe which introduces a few new solutions and materials. The upper is a new deal – combining construction techniques and materials reworked to support the foot for high performance. Overall the upper is a breathable textile, supported through the lace throat and vamp with threads of Flywire, which replace synthetic suede overlays and their extra weight. The ankle collar features a lightweight sueded lining for comfort, and the forefoot has a forgiving stretch, checked by dyecut supports fused to the forefoot. The midsole is more magic – Lunarlon, a soft foam that resists compression, but is quite soft, in a carrier foam which holds its shape, and provides the traction from molded lugs. This marriage of the carrier foam and soft internal foam, is light and durable. Small lugs of rubber, cover the sole, island-like, providing traction. The ride is comfortable, belying the shoes light weight. Overall the Luna Racer is a durable and protective high performance racer.
