My first pair of spikes was the Saturn by adidas. Like our Cross Country shoes of the time, our spikes were at least a 4-5 day a week piece of equipment, though we usually did most of our longest running on the roads in our flats. At the start of the season there was a cracking business in selling last year’s spikes to a smaller footed team mate, that is if you had outgrown yours, or were looking for an upgrade. The Saturn did a very respectable job on natural and artificial surfaces, though almost all of the tracks that we ran on my one season in the Saturn were dirt. I set multiple personal bests in the shoe, in part because the events we were improving in were new to us, so almost everybody got at least a few PRs by virtue of experience.
