Reebok has a storied history as a running brand. The Floatzig X-1 is a versatile new shoe that might be overlooked by the untrained eye. Utilizing the Zigtech midsole – a firm-ish molded foam from heel through the medial side, atop a resilient pelletized PEBA foam, molded for effective cushioning. The midfoot is stiffened by a carbon fiber plate, to energize the stride. The Strobel board is EVA, and the innersole is polyurethane, each lending their cushioning properties. The outersole is a thin, full-length layer of rubber, perforated to reduce weight, without sacrificing durability. The upper is a thin mesh, supported by welded internal midfoot strapping, while the thin tongue and heel-cup are sufficient for support without additional weight. The overall performance is suitable for long runs, faster paced running, and protective for races longer than one hour.
Testers: “Close fit, though roomy enough in the toes. Good, responsive ride; Reebok has surprised me with more than I expected.”
