The racing and performance categories have an influence on running shoes, beginning the trickle down effect of technologies to the various categories. The Hoka Cielo X1 is a showpiece of design, function, and performance. The upper features a striated textile which facilitates the transfer of moisture to the outside of the shoe for evaporation, fits securely, thanks to the elasticized tongue and the offset lace holes offer fit options, whether symmetrical or creative. The midsole is a bi-layer PEBA foam which sandwiches a carbon fiber plate, with its efficient transfer of energy, and features a cutaway on the lateral side to shave weight without a loss of efficiency. The outersole is thin, with a few millimeters of striated texturing offering noticeable grip, as well as a bit more durability without adding extra weight when seconds count. The aggregation adds up to a high performance racer that can handle the mileage, the racing, and the attention grabbing looks, whether standing still or flying down the race course.
Testers: “Light weight, with a cushiony bounce and fast feel. Great for speedier days. Fits like a slipper, and just as light.”
