The Vomero is Nike’s premier cushioned neutral shoe, and it really shows. Round 10 reiterates the strengths of the shoe, its protective and resilient ride, with new approaches to the fit of the shoe. The upper utilizes a new knitted fabrication, called Flymesh, which is a new engineered mesh for Nike that is working its way through their running line. The upper wraps the heel and midfoot in a firm and effective way, with a wider feel in the forefoot for plenty of toe-room. Flywire strands are interspersed for support across the midfoot, extending to the eyestay, essentially doing the same job as the saddle from previous versions of the Vomero. The midsole has also received a significant update, in keeping with their Zoom running shoes. The ride is firmer, with a subtle bounce to it, still well cushioned but not as soft a recent versions. The outersole also veers from round 9, adopting a rail-like heel setup with two tracks of rubber along the perimeter of the heel. The forefoot is blown rubber with multi directional grooves and cutouts along the foot to flex as it wants. The net effect is a shoe that manages big miles while providing protection, good energy return, and durability in the mix.
Testers: ”Good snug fit in the heel with room for my toes. Nicely cushioned but not too soft, pretty bouncy. Felt pretty light on the foot, but substantial – great longer mileage shoe.”
