Many years ago Nike sent an internal memo company-wide, for a contest to name a new shoe which was to feature a new technology: Air. The name which I submitted? The Aero. Beautiful, short, sweet, descriptive… not chosen. The name which won out was a winged horse from ancient mythology, Pegasus. in the intervening decades, there have been a number of Pegasus iterations, and a few variants. The latest is the Pegasus Premium. As the name implies it adds to the legacy with a Premium effort. The upper is open mesh, for its proven ventilation. The midsole is where the magic usually happens, and the Peg Premium brings it in Spades; with a trifecta, Zoom X near the foot, Zoom Air directly below, and React X foam completing the sandwich. The ride offers a unique feel; a combination of cushy, bouncy, and propulsive. The outersole is a low profile variation on Nike’s venerable Waffle, here with a variety of elongated “waffles” arranged for traction and durability. While many will wear the shoe for its aesthetic the technical effort is well done, setting you up for Marathon training, maintaining fitness, and most of your running in between.
