Adidas ADIZERO SL

In 1972 adidas responded to an upstart brand’s innovation of nylon uppers with the introduction of a new shoe which featured its own nylon upper, the SL 72. Fast forward to 2022 and a new shoe, the ADIZERO SL – which is light, especially for a daily trainer. It also makes a lighter touch on the wallet, but with a combination of performance and durability. The upper is a thin synthetic mesh, with an accommodating fit and enough foam at the ankle collar for protection and comfort. The midsole is a 35mm stack in the heel to 25mm up front, for a 10 mm drop. Adding to the cushioned ride is a forefoot insert of Lightstrike Pro – improving comfort without adding weight, and probably reducing it overall. The outersole is carbon rubber over only as much of the sole as needed, and in a thin layer with ridges providing traction. The ride is cushy, bouncy even, protective and responsive, contributing to the effectiveness of the SL as a daily training shoe.

Testers: “Solid everyday running shoe. Light, well cushioned, simple – not so much an economy shoe as it is a serious, no frills performer”
