The Olympic Games first graced the capitol of Japan in October of 1964. As was often the case, a new shoe designed for the top level of competition was frequently named for the city hosting the Olympics. The adidas Tokyo entered the line in time for the Games, and was a preferred choice for the three distance medallists from the United States; Billy Mills – Gold 10,000 meters, Bob Schul – Gold 5,000 meters, and Bill Dellinger – Bronze 5,000 meters. Though it morphed a little bit over its effective lifespan, it was because of its durability and versatility that its popularity endured for so long.
