The Superior has been in the Altra line for 6 full iterations, though there were at least 3 versions which were partial updates, so hard to believe it’s from a “new” brand. The upper is a thin, tough, weave for support and pliability. The fit is roomy in the forefoot, an Altra attribute, that is close fitting from the arch to heel, providing support where needed. The lace throat has two additional lace holes on each side of the eyestay, making 9 possible lacing configurations at the top instead of the usual four. The outersole is a low profile, though toothy lugged arrangement, which provides grip on road or trail, without sacrificing durability. The midsole is not only zero drop, but also low profile, protective enough, but with some ground feel tossed in for proprioception. As a racer or lightweight trail burner, the Superior 6 is equipped to deliver.
Testers: “Love, love the Altra Superior. This is my third pair, and still my go to trail shoe.”
