The Sylan is a new shoe to Arc’teryx, perhaps an overnight success… several years in the making, since the process began in 2015. The shoe is a rugged trail runner, as the synergy of materials and features equips the Sylan for the rigors encountered on the trails. The upper begins with a durable, closed mesh that is both tough and breathable, with laminated overlays effectively keep things light. The tongue and ankle collar are merged from a stretch mesh that fits snugly and comfortably and also includes a convenient and cleverly designed lace garage. Foam cushions align with the ankle bones for a comfortable and secure ankle and heel fit. The Sylan is also available in a Goretex version, de riguer for trail extremists. The midsole features a 21-28mm stack height, smoothly contoured to cushion effectively. The outersole is full-length Vibram Litebase Megagrip; a toothy but low profile chevron-shaped, carbon rubber design. The overall view is a well designed, durable trail runner for off-road running adventures.
