The Gel Racer came to my collection in the early 90’s by way of Copeland’s Sports. Between Copeland’s Sports and Big 5, more than 90% of my 9-12 pairs of running shoes (at any given time), arrived via their weekly specials on discount goods. The Gel Racer was my racing shoes for Triathlons in the early 90’s. The upper was a tricot nylon blend, with a multi density midsole which cushioned with ASICS’ gel pads in heel and forefoot. I ran trails, cross country and roads with the shoes, and they assisted in the garnering of a modest, by consistent share, of age group awards.
