The Pure Grit is the trail version of the Brooks Pure Project shoes. Lighter and lower than other Brooks trail shoes it is different, and not just for Brooks. The design of the profile and lugged sole combine well to split the difference between protection and “feel for the trail” better than expected. The upper is a foot hugging closed mesh with a low heel, a smooth lining and thin tongue. The midsole, while thin is a resilient blend of EVA and DNA, the two compounds blown into one foam layer, providing good cushioning either on or off road. The outersole is a thin layer of rubber with small lugs providing very effective grip. The Pure Project features – the Nav Band and split toe, seem to have been aimed at the trail, but are just good running shoe ideas, whether on or off road.
