The Transcend is the top shoe in Brooks’ Support lineup, and round seven receives attention in the refinement department, improving both aesthetics as well as performance. The upper continues with the requisite engineered mesh, though here the larger venting holes are concentrated above the toes, with the rest of the upper served by tiny perforations which allow heat to escape. Support in the vamp is provided by closely spaced, high frequency welded, diagonal stripes, which allow the foot to flex while directing it forward. As with recent versions throughout the Brooks’ line, the ankle collar and heel lining are well cushioned and utilize an ultra-smooth polyester fabric to maximize comfort. The forefoot is gusseted, creating a near friction-free dual layer surrounding the foot. The midsole now incorporates the Guiderails into its molding for better aesthetics and function. The shoe rolls well through the gait, accommodating the foot’s motion effectively. The ride is firm and protectively cushioned, and the DNA Loft foam keeps the weight down, thanks to its chemical and physical properties. The full contact outersole features a thinner layer of tough, textured rubber, between flex grooves to balance traction and durability, while paring a little weight. The quality and performance of Brooks’ top end shoes has garnered well deserved praise. The execution of the Transcend 7 points to continued attention to key improvements, as materials and biomechanical solutions make running shoes even better.

“Responsive ride that is stable and firm. Upper fit wraps the foot well, with a smooth, deluxe feel. Handled daily runs and worked great in the rotation, as well.”
