Merrell’s outdoor focus is known to many nature lovers, of the active variety. The Agility Peak 5 is the latest version of Merrell’s versatile trail franchise. The heart of the trail shoe is the tread, because grip is important for stopping and climbing on trails. Vibram is a common denominator of the best trail shoes, and is a staple of the Agility Peak series’ success. The upper makes a little departure from round 4, trimming weight while maintaining performance, beginning with a more traditional lacing system – dropping the webbing straps, and the tongue holds in place thanks to a midfoot gusset. For harsher weather, gaiter accommodation has been improved with anchors at the heel and eyestay. A reshaped heel configuration, both in the midsole and outersole, manages trails more effectively, contributing to a lighter and more efficient trail shoe, than its predecessor. A resilient layer of foam adds to the shoe’s versatility making paved road crossings just firmer trails for the Vibram® Megagrip tread. Versatility and performance are watchwords for the Agility Peak 5, as to be expected from a well designed trail shoe.
