The Cloudmonster is new to the On Running line, and their first foray into the oversized midsole realm. The upper is a closed mesh, which breathes well, holds the foot securely, and its gusseted tongue accommodates the foots motion without bunching or sliding. The midsole is On’s Cloudtec system, hexagonal shaped tube-like openings through the sole which flex under pressure to cushion the foot. The ride is highly successful, as with other Max cushioned shoes, here highlighting On’s approach to shoemaking. The outersole is carbon rubber in the forefoot and at the heel, the remainder is toughened foam – a familiar go-to strategy for weight savings. The Cloudmonster shows the way for future iterations of the Cloudtec midsole, and On’s solution for running comfort.
