The Cloudmonster led On Running to the oversized midsole frontier. Version 2 refines the focus while advancing their Cloud tech to a loftier level, perhaps reflected in the new price, which is a jump. The upper features a subtle change, maintaining the support of round one with an improved weave and fewer seams, better breathability without compromising protection from the elements. Side by side there is no mistaking the familiarity, but the upper is improved in fit and feel. The midsole features the familiar look of the Helion foamed On Clouds, here newly engineered for a bit more cushioning and stability, a fabric Strobel under the insole replacing the EVA layer from the original. Minor changes to the Clouds as well as a forefoot second density combine to make the ride a bit more protective and responsive. The midsole also loses the speedboard through the shank, with little, if any noticeable effect. The outersole gains a few strips of rubber, which mildly improves the toe-off, though fans of the original should find no significant difference, except improved durability and a little less weight. Talk about Swiss efficiency.
Testers: “Better than expected. I was a fan of the first edition, but this is more stable, better cushioned, and they get comments every time out.”
