Onitsuka Tiger Marathon

The Tiger Marathon was THE racing shoe for West Coast cross country runners from the late 60’s to mid 70’s and beyond. Other shoes would eventually become available and challenge Onitsuka throughout the running boom, but lining up on starting lines during those years, it was apparent that the Marathon was the preferred choice of a mass of competitive runners. While I started with the Boston, I really wanted the Marathon, and by that second Cross Country season I shunted the Boston’s to faster training and longer runs. My collection of shoes had begun to accumulate and now numbered four, with plans to expand. My feet also expanded, and the second hand market was the result for my spikes and racers, which opened the door to new acquisitions.
