The Tiger Mexico was introduced ahead of the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games as a high mileage training shoe to meet the demands of elite distance runners. My pair was handed down from a successful runner with multiple individual championships, ahead of my Freshman Cross Country season. The split leather upper required some break in, but the shoes performed exceptionally well once conformed to the foot, in part because of the multi-layered cushioning. The outersole was a herringbone design which was quite durable, though eventually was sanded smooth in the heel and ball of the foot. While they did eventually develop a hole in the toe, due to my growing foot size, they covered hundreds of miles in training – and already had many hundreds on them before I put them to use.
