Puma’s new Complete Trailfox is a real performer that effectively combines the best attributes of performance shoes with the best features of trail shoes. The Trailfox sports a water-resistant upper that also seems to resist penetration from thorns and vegetation encountered along the trail. The aggressively lugged EverGrip sole is ideal for trail running but also works reasonably well on roads, offering good cushioning in either setting. The trade-off is that it’s a little less durable than the carbon rubber used in road running shoes. The Trailfox’s light weight makes it especially well suited to trail racing. And it achieved that light weight without sacrificing the trail basics: traction and protection. One wear-tester described it this way: “Lightweight, but still good stability. The uppers can take quite a beating. Traction was great. Spiderman would give them a thumbs-up.”
