The Triad was a hybrid running/cross trainer shoe, as opposed to some of the cross trainer/”running” shoes of the time. It took inspiration from the Triathlon, and I picked up a number of pairs at the discount sporting goods stores of the 90’s. The upper was typical of the time, with a combination of open and closed meshes, and the tricot type lining effectively reduced friction. The toe featured a bumper which proved necessary, or welcomed in some of the trail running courses which provided an added challenge (read hills) to the “Half” Ironman qualifiers in our region. The sole was an effective slab rubber with a utilitarian tread which effectively did its job. As mentioned, I went through several pair of a few years with the Triad in my collection.
