Old School Spike

50sSpike

This is a shoe from the 1952 Olympics. Made from calfskin, and featuring a midfoot strap/support for extra security through the arch, a leather sole, and permanent spikes. They were very effective for use on the cinder tracks of that period, and managed track races from 100 to 10,000 meters, including the hurdles and Steeplechase. They were also used for most, or all of the field events of the day, even the shot put, discus throw, and javelin – all of which were usually held on dirt runways and rings. They were durable, as they managed the ten different events of the Olympic Decathlon event at the Olympic Stadium of Helsinki.
